With the increasing effects of climate change, it is more important than ever before to monitor the functioning of Dutch water works. Quay walls are a crucial tool in municipal water management. It is important to proactively receive notifications when changes occur in the structural integrity of a quay wall.
Skew monitor for the Municipality of Dordrecht

Approach
To make the IoT implementation as accessible as possible, this project is based on an extension of Multisensor. By using the Multisensor design we can realize a new customized solution in a short time. A highly accurate inclinometry sensor has been added as an extension of the multisensor. This allows accurate measurements to be made to 0.01 degree.
The new sensors were tested in practice through a pilot. During the pilot it became clear that both the placement and the measurement results were very useful for the asset management team of the municipality of Dordrecht.
In this case we developed solution derived from Multisensor Read how we work
Result
The result is a further developed prototype that can be prepared for the first series production.
- The housing design is such that the sensor can withstand the environmental conditions of a quay wall: IP67 waterproof.
- The measured values provide an accurate representation of the tilt up to one hundredth of a degree accuracy.
- The sensor offers the possibility to detect vibrations in the road surface from passing trucks or docking ships.
- The sensor communicates the sensor information several times an hour
- The system automatically generates notifications when abnormalities are detected.
- All information from all bins is monitored 24/7 and brought together in one clear online cockpit.
This allows the municipality's asset manager to automatically receive notifications of important changes.
