In collaboration with the Municipality of Rotterdam, Dent IoT has developed a filling level monitor for above-ground waste bins. These bins are spread out on the streets throughout the Municipality of Rotterdam. To manage these bins, it is important to know whether they are full and what their active location is. It often happens that these containers and their base are temporarily changed during work. When replaced, the same box-poer combinations do not always return to the same place.
The municipality takes care of emptying these bins itself. This is currently done on the basis of fixed rounds, in which municipal workers combine environmental inspection and cleaning. Knowing which bins are full would make this job considerably easier. However, there is no specific custom solution available on the market for the bins that the municipality uses, only generic distance sensors. These stand out when they are used and this encourages vandalism. In addition, these sensors often cannot be configured as desired. That is why we asked Dent to develop a filling board solution that could be neatly integrated into the design of this type of waste bin.
