Commissioned by and in collaboration with the Municipality of Rotterdam Humankind developed a (temporary) use for parking spaces. This is a modular system of seating and green elements. This design can be requested by 3 local residents and will be placed in a regular parking space in the street. Humankind came to us with the question: Are the PRKLTs used and how often and when? These answers help with the presentation to the municipality and the choice to permanently deploy these PRKLTs.

Om for Humankind and the Municipality of Rotterdam Make IoT implementation as accessible as possible, this project is completely based on the functionalities of Multi-sensor. By using the accelerometer On Multisensor we can distinguish and count vibrations.
Through the Bluetooth interface from Multisensor we were able to determine the correct threshold value for the accelerometer together with Humankind. This threshold value indicates which vibration is use of the PRKLT and which vibration is noise or passing traffic.
During this session we also determined the correct placement for Multisensor to absorb as many vibrations as possible.

The result is a fully equipped dashboard containing:

• the location of PRKLTs based on Multisensor location
• a graph containing the use of the PRKLT per time unit.This data was sent via LoRa.

With this, Humankind has been able to provide insight into the use of the PRKLT in Rotterdam.
